Panasonic reps discuss latest in cordless tools
July 24, 2007 -- Representatives of Panasonic Corp. recently visited Lagina Plumbing in Milwaukee to discuss the next generation of batteries for cordless power tools. Lagina Plumbing was among a group of Midwest plumbing, heating and electrical contractors selected by the electronics company, which was seeking input on how contractors use cordless power tools and how cobalt lithium ion batteries could improve jobsite efficiency.
Researchers are now studying how to improve cobalt lithium ion batteries for use in applications bigger than small electronics, such as cellphones.
At Lagina Plumbing, the electronics company representatives discussed cordless drills, impact drills, saws and other tools that are lighter and better balanced, thus leading to less fatigue in the user. The tools would also engage cobalt lithium ion batteries for longer life, thus increasing jobsite efficiency.
"As our company looks for ways to increase our jobsite productivity and to eliminate the need to pull hundreds of feet of extension cord throughout projects, these new generation of tools will be instrumental in moving toward the goal of being corded-tool-free in the next 18 months," said Jim Lagina, owner of Lagina Plumbing. "We want to thank Panasonic Corp. and the trio of Japanese visitors, Yasuhisa Miyawaki, Kazuto Toyama and Motohiro Iwami, for their warm exchange with our staff."
Lagina said he is impressed with Panasonic’s investment in grassroots research that will help it develop tools that will not only improve its own business but, also, to help companies such as Lagina Plumbing better serve their customers.
