Following are some of the ways that Lagina Plumbing and its employees support the community.
Sept. 3, 2009 -- Lagina Plumbing is donating the labor to install 22 new toilets at Milwaukee City Hall. Kohler donated a portion of the fixtures while United P&H donated some and provided others at low cost.
"As a business located in the city of Milwaukee, we're happy to provide this support and to help the city gain higher efficiency in its water use," said Jim Lagina, president of Lagina Plumbing.
Dec. 28, 2008 -- The U.S. Marine Corps Reserves’ Toys for Tots program received a substantial donation from Lagina Plumbing.
The Milwaukee-based commercial plumbing company made the donation with funds originally designated for a fireworks display in the city’s Historic Third Ward district. The fireworks had been planned as part of the Third Ward’s “Christmas in the Ward” kickoff, but were cancelled due to an unanticipated safety issue.
“We still wanted to do something on behalf of the Third Ward Association,” said Jim Lagina, president of Lagina Plumbing. “Jim Julka of Rubin’s Furniture suggested a donation to Toys for Tots, and we agreed that was an excellent alternative.”
Lagina Plumbing worked on the major buildout for the Milwaukee office of advertising firm Cramer-Krasselt in the space above Rubin’s Furniture.
Toys for Tots was started by a Marine Corps major in 1947 and adopted by the Corps in 1948. Since then, the program has provided more than 380 million toys to children in nearly 600 communities throughout the U.S.
March 29, 2007 – Members and friends of the Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors Association of Milwaukee and Southeastern Wisconsin raised $4,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Wisconsin in a new charity event on March 28.
Plumbers gathered at Miller Park and, in their company vehicles, paraded to Comedy Sportz downtown for a private show, dinner and auction.
“We had a lot of people work together to make this event happen,” said Jim Lagina, president of Lagina Plumbing and president of the PMC Association. “Make-A-Wish Foundation is a great organization with an important mission; we are happy to do something fun and different as an industry to help make a difference in a child’s life.”
Contractors, suppliers, and other industry friends contributed to the fundraising event through sponsorships, donations, the parade and silent auction. “It is the first time that we have done something like this and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. We will continue to promote the plumbing industry and we look forward to working with the Make-A-Wish Foundation in the future,” said Lagina.
The event was capped off with a check presentation to Kevin O’Toole, long time board member of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and executive vice president of Hunzinger Construction. In turn, O’Toole presented Lagina and the association with a “star” representing the child whose wish was made true. Brandon, a 13-year-old boy, now can enjoy his favorite television programs and movies in his personal home theater.
